- Heat load, not square feet. A drafty 1900s farmhouse needs more capacity than a tight new build of the same size, and I size to the load.
- Outdoor unit count. One multi-zone condenser is cheaper than several single-zone units, but not every layout allows it.
- Electrical and mounting. A clean panel with room for a breaker keeps cost down, while a full panel or a long line-set run adds labor.
- Cold-climate equipment. The hyper-heat units that actually hold a New Hampshire winter cost more than a builder-grade unit that quits at 5 degrees, and they are the ones worth buying here.
